This inaugural edition of T3XTURE Archizine is an exploration of texture in architecture. Where Le Corbusier once proposed whitewashing Paris with ripolin, digital fabrications now create opportunities for new ornaments and textures that relate to the sensorium. “In music, texture is the way the melodic, rhythmic, and harmonic materials are combined in a composition, thus determining the overall quality of the sound in a piece.” In architecture texture is the layering of geography, structure, space, constructions, materiality, digital fabrications, passages, ideas, and the movements of human activity in a composition thus determining the overall qualities of a form or place. The issue includes: An interview with Christopher Tyler, PhD and the work of: Kostas Manolidis, Architect; Alexander Milojevic; Craig Purcell; +FARM; University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Marcus Prize Studio Installation: Sou Fujimoto and architect/associate professor, Mo Zell; RM Sovich Architecture; Alexandra Singer-Bieder & Sofia Bennani; Jason Orbe-Smith; and Emmy Mikelson.
